What does John mean in 20:23 when Jesus says to the apostles that whoever they forgive is forgiven and the sins of whomever they retain are retained?
Does John literally believe that the apostles had the authority to forgive sins?
Apparently God through Jesus gives them that authority, yes.
Bart what are your thoughts on Pope Francis? Overall positive or negative?
I love his stands on social issues and think he’s an amazing breath of fresh air.

Immensely. Though not because of his theology or traditional CAtholic views. But he’s SO far in advance of so many others.
