Hello All,
When we speak about the Christianity in Antiquity, we often stop at around 400CE, when the New Testament was canonized. However, the process of canonization did not seem to unite the monotheistic believers as much as it did separate them. We ended up having Jews, Orthodox Christians, and some other smaller groups of believers.
While it is easy to assume that the smaller groups were eradicated by the victorious Orthodox Christians, there might as well be some ways that these faiths have indeed survived.
What happened to these smaller groups and how did they continue/progress?
Is it safe to assume that some of today’s religions/sects have strong parallels to the early non-Orthodox Christians?
How close are the Ebionites to the early Muslims, the Gnostics to the Coptics of the Near East.
As I was reading Jesus, Interrupted and learning about the beliefs that many early Christians had, it was easy to connect some of those beliefs to what followers of today’s other faiths have.
Thoughts? Resources?
