“The Gospel of the Nazarenes” suggests an alternative view on the life and teachings of Jesus. Supposedly written around 40 AD and is thus much older than the canonical gospels and it’s suggested that is probably upon which the gospel of Matthew was originally based.
“The original is presumed, along with so many other things, to have been destroyed between the riots of 66 A.D. and the ultimate sacking of Jerusalem by Titus and his Roman troops in 70 A.D.” Alan Wauters & Rick Van Wyhe: The Gospel of the Nazirenes,1997. According to the authors, it must be “the oldest of all accounts of Jesus’ life” (Wauters & Van Wyhe, p. XIII).
What does current research suggest on its authenticity?
