I want to get into learning the bible and everything about it. To be honest, I dont have lots of knowledge/education and I am a beginner.

I would love to know the answer to 2 questions.

1. Which book of Bart would you recommend to start with at FIRST so that I can pick up the knowledge and then get ready time by time to move on to his next books ? Note that I am a beginner. Dont want to start with did jesus exist yet.

2. Since reading books takes time and I dont have much(I am studying a theoretical physics at the time) so trying my best to find time to study Bart’s work as wel. Is it worth buying his online video courses instead of books ? What would I miss if I did that ? Definitely courses would take less time.

Thank you very much.

He wrote an ** you do not have permission to see this link **, which, if you are a true beginner, is where I’d start.

And by the way, in my experience, video courses won’t really save time. They might feel easier, but (a) they won’t cover more material than you can read in the same amount of time, and (b) passively watching a video is unlikely to foster the retention that reading will–if you are the odd person who actively takes notes during a video and reviews them afterward, this won’t apply

Thank you so much. I will read then.

By the way, book you shared does not have kindle version which is a deal breaker. Reading 600 pages book at night is mindblowingly uncomfortable in bed.

PDF’s are available, though one might need to resort to less licit channels to acquire them.

If you’re interested in the historical Jesus: Jesus Apocalyptic Prophet of the New Millennium and How Jesus Became God make a nice doublet.

I mean I thought misquoting Jesus was a good introduction when starting with Bart Ehrman’s books but thats just my personal opinion which others might disagree with

They are such easy reading that any book is a starter book imho. Bart is a great communicator.

You could try

Jesus, Interrupted: Contradictions in the Bible

It seems I finished reading the book no later than 2011.

I did not like that it did not have an index.

My own book does not have an index but my book’s table of contents is generous.

I’m reading How Jesus became God and whilst that is definitely easier reading than some book for a scholarly audience its probably one of his more heavier ones although i would agree you can pretty much choose any as his writing style is so accessible
