The first reason to abandon drinking wine as blood for Communion was that it separates believers from God, it does not bring them closer to God. The second reason to abandon drinking wine as blood for Communion is, it is antiquated, out of date. “Drink my blood in remembrance of me” [Jesus] exhibits an erroneous understanding of the digestive system.
