It seems to me the confusion and controversy concerning the Trinty may be the misperception of the Jewish Elohim with the Hellenistic concepts of deity. I have been reading “The Unseen Realm” by Michael S. Heiser and think there is a very different perception of the nature of God from a Hebrew concept of the Elohim and Yahweh versus the Hellenized gentile Christion concept of deity, God or Gods. This may also have been one of the issues that caused the separation of the Jewish Christians from the gentile Christians of the 1st and 2nd centuries. Any thoughts historically speaking?

Robert,
Michael Heiser does elaborate on the divine council of Elohim even delving into the ancient Ugarit Council of El. However, he does talk about the sons of Elohim and also the nature of Jesus explaining Greek “monogenes” translated as begotten in John does not come from the Greek verb “gennao” meaning to beget, birth or bear, but rather the noun “genos” (class, kind) and monogenes is a term which literally means “one of a kind”. I’m no expert on Greek perhaps you know Greek better than I do.
His perspective is conservative, but I find it a well-written book so far. I gather the Elohim are a race of created beings who reside in Yahweh’s abode. The angels or messengers, sons of God are also Elohim with Yahweh as the creator of the Elohim and top Elohim.
I have read elsewhere that the Jewish concept of Yahweh is that of a non-gendered spirit and that the spirit of God can be analogized to the nature of the atom having three parts – proton, neutron, and electron which harmonize and balance each other out working in unison. An atom is one yet 3 parts bound together. If you have any thoughts or even tutelage on the Greek I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Robert, Thank you for that response. Very interesting. I am working on understanding more of the Jewish background of the new testament as I think the text loses flavor when we try to understand it from a modern perspective. The actual meaning simply gets lost in translation.
