Yogananda worshipped the Divine Mother in the form of Kali.
But see this:
Kali is she, who is black; she who is death.
Goddess of time, doomsday, and death–the black goddess

Brahma (creator), Vishnu (preserver), Shiva (destroyer)

Salvation through Jesus is thought to be salvation of the soul.
There was soul transcendence with Yogananda.
Christian soul salvation is salvation over bad character and death.
Christian soul salvation was not the message of Yogananda. Yogananda taught his students the need for direct experience of truth, as opposed to blind belief. Yogananda said, the true basis of religion is not belief but intuitive experience.

So a religion of BELIEF might be below human capabilities.
To the one who clings to the ego Kali is fearful because she threatens the death of the self. But Kali can bestow moksha, “liberation”, to those who embrace the death of the self. Kali represents the horror of life, which can only survive by consuming itself. The Holy of Holies, like the way to Eden, is forever barred to those who cannot acknowledge this horror, bow to it, and so pass on through.

Hi there,
I think it is fair to say that many Christ followers do see salvation by such blind faith beliefs such as the blood of Jesus on the cross has cleansed them of all their own Spiritual faults. This is of course a very Old Testament Jewish idea of sacrifice of a living creature to God, to appease God and receive forgiveness. Killing an innocent creature of God’s, be it a dove or lamb or human, is of course a disturbing insight into the lack of what transcendent Spiritual teachings are all about.
I do believe Jesus saw this problem with the Old Testament belief system concerning a Divine Creator and did in fact teach how to become transcendent through altering your understanding of what it means to be Spiritual in a True Divine sense. We can see it in His teachings in places such as, “be in this world but not of it.” and “God’s sun rises on the evil and the good, His rain falls on the just and the unjust. If you wish to be children of your Father in Heaven, ( a Divine Transcendent Spiritual Being ) then you must be as perfect as this.” “you have heard it said, love your neighbour and hate your enemies, but I say to you, Love your enemies, do good to them that persecute you and pray for those that despitefully use you etc.” This is Divine Love, perfect equanimity and harmless.
You can only become like this, if you transcend the duality of your own view of life and everyone in it. The Jewish children, like so many then and now, believed only they were the chosen children of a Divine Being who created all life. This new transcendent way of understanding and seeing life, must be experienced within your own being to replace and overcome the dualistic view, otherwise they are just a lot of nice ideas that remain impotent. Like a powerful medicine in a bottle, sitting on your shelf that you look at each day, reading all the ingredients on the label but never take inside you.
I think all the great Spiritual teachers we have records of throughout human history, point to an inner personal transformation, which starts as a foundational, descriptive belief system to follow, to arrive at the transcendent experience. Blind faith is dangerous and easily manipulated by others. Intelligent faith involving Divine Love, can produce realistic, practical and beneficial outcomes for oneself and others you associate with in your life.
Divine Love is a universal Way, for anyone of any faith or non-faith, who understands the components that help you manifest it in your life. Spiritual teachers, are obviously the main group in any culture, that usually investigate these matters more fully, and hopefully pass the Way of Divine Love on to others correctly.

Hi Steefen.
As we know, Jesus confirmed that the transcendence of Love your neighbour as yourself and the Divine Creator is greater than all the burnt offerings, when the one questioning him gave that answer about the burnt offerings of the old testament way of worship. His reply was, “you are not far from the Kingdom of God.” Jesus taught the True Spiritual Way is beyond duality and material sacrifice.
The ‘get behind me satan’ line was directed at Peter, who did not want Jesus to allow them to kill His physical body. Peter still had not realised, it was all about our Soul in Spirit, not the physical body. As Jesus clearly said, “do not be afraid of those who can kill your body, but cannot kill your Soul.”
Jesus was teaching a way of transcending this material world through an inner enlightenment. Unfortunately the Gospels are filled with complex dualistic sayings attributed to Jesus. Personally, I see the Divine Love message being far above, the eternal hell of punishment message attributed to Him in places. I believe if we look at His overall life and conduct towards other children, we can see the True Spiritual message He was teaching amongst the varied sayings in the Gospels.
Divine Love is only Divine Love, untainted by anything else.
I am just a follower of His, I belong to no denomination. I enjoy sharing viewpoints here at Bart’s place.
kind regards, Christopher.
