History consists of two active tasks: interpretation and reconstruction
History equals Investigation.
History uses Imagination, also. Max Planck said “New ideas are not generated by deduction but by artistically creative imagination” to find truth.

Dr. Steve Mason says Whiston did a good job (1737) translating Josephus, but today, we wouldn’t have used the manuscripts he used.

I do see a different translation, a translation by H. St. J. Thackeray, Josephus Jewish Antiquities (Books 1-3), Loeb Classical Library.

This is an essential help for picking up the subtleties of Josephus’ writings. The translation is somewhat easier to follow than Whiston’s, though more importantly includes copious footnotes spanning grammar and lexicon, culture, contemporary history, etc. Naturally, there is translation bias but this is made plain in the introduction.

However, Jewish Antiquities (Books 12-13) in the Loeb Classical Library are translated by Ralph Marcus.
With Wars of the Jews, Loeb Classical Library goes back to H. St. J. Thackeray.
Oxford World’s Classics has Martin Goodman, et al. doing the translation.
Penguin has Betty Radice, et al. doing the translation.
