Nice narration.
I looked up Appion’s version of the funeral. Seems on point. I wonder about the Judeans weeping over Caesar though. Any sources on this? I have heard defenses made of Judean rights based on Caesar’s supposed favoritism, but am unsure if this was attested in non Judean sources. This might explain why they might initially be upset.

Thank you for the compliment on the narration.
What I can say right off the bat is that when one wonders about Jewish support and sympathy for Julius Caesar, one must compare what happened to Judeans under Pompeii the Great vs. what happened to Judeans under Julius Caesar.
Judeans preferred Julius Caesar to Pompeii the Great.

Not only that, but many later cases brought before the courts or even the emperor seemed to hinge partly on Caesar or Augsutus’s recognition of their oddly monotheistic behavior as non threatening behaviors of allies rather than enemies. I think this is based on the strong support against Marc Antony and Cleopatra given Augustus. This one point of choosing the right side in a Roman civil war coupled with Herod’s overall political acuity put Judea in a very positive light until the revolt. Still, they could cite Caesar and Augustus for favoring them in later political or legal debates.
