Hello, I am stuck on trying to write an essay where the subject is the foot-washing from the gnostic John. I write from the agnostic/omnithestic/atheistic POV which is why I became a member here. I Have the Jewish/Hebraic history of the hygiene down already. Why it was done by non-Jewish slaves- I need to write as to why a Essenes Jew who was told he fulfilled the messianic prophecies would wash his ‘pods’ feet in the middle of dinner when feet were washed as people entered homes, especially when in all reality the man would not have known that he was going to die unless he knew that Judas turned him in and that he could not run from the Roman centurions any more- but I will not write from the POV that he knew because he was God.

I am of the opinion that trying to find the reality behind the foot washing incident is akin to calculating the wind velocity necessary to move enough water for Moses to cross a relatively shallow portion of either a red or reed sea. It entirely misses the point of the author.
