I don’t know if you found what you are looking for yet, but I can recommend Travel with Friends out of Arkansas. I have taken one trip and am going again next month. They have great guides and bus drivers and stay in first class accommodations. Go to TravelwithFriends.com and check them out.

I checked out the website and I’m not sure it’s right for me. I’m a Christian, but I don’t want a tour that “takes you on the steps that Jesus walked” and that kind of stuff that is not historical or factual. I’m more interested in an academically oriented tour that is friendly to religion but emphasizes history as opposed to legend. But thank you for your response.

Perfectly understandable. Check some of the Biblical history and archeology sites. They do this kind of academic stuff. Actually I think Prof Ehrman has conducted some of these tours himself.
But have you thought of just doing a lot of reading and then going solo? That’s what I did. I spent some time in Israel and Egypt and Jordan. You make your own schedule and are able to avoid the considerable tourist crap. There are lots of guides online and hardcopy, and several traveler and expat sites where you can get tips and warnings.
Good luck! An unforgettable experience.

Some of us bloggers accepted Dr. Ehrman’s invitation to go to Israel with The UNC Alumni Association (Odysseys Unlimited) October 2 – 13, 2018. As he himself said the trip was special in every way with an unusually good group, a terrific itinerary and the best guide ever. Personally, there is no way it possibly could have been better. You may want to wait until his next trip to see Israel.
