I’ve been thinking about purchasing The New Oxford Annotated Bible with Apocrypha. I understand there are 3 different verrsions. On the one hand, I’m inclined toward Bruce Metzger’s; yet the latest release seems to have been in 1991 so I’m concerned I might be missing more recent scholarship. Any advice on which to get?
I have the fourth edition (2010), so I can comment on that one. I like that the notes are not from any denominational point of view but from a more historical and scholarly point of view. The notes are not as extensive as other study bibles but they are clear and provide good commentary on the text. I was in the same boat as you trying to decide which one to get. I went with the newest one available.
My new hobby is collecting study bibles, translations and other religions holy text. I just started but it looks like it will be a very rewarding hobby.
