This collection of mostly Gnostic gospels is almost certainly considered out of date, but I wondered how highly (or not) it might still be regarded, at least for what it contains. I am familiar with James mostly from his own ghost stories, but he was a respected scholar in his own time (which often shows through as a hallmark in his highly individual tales). The first edition was apparently published in 1926, and it was revised (or corrected) about 1953, and reprinted as late as 1972. (James himself was long dead before then.)
