Father Richard Rohr, a recognized ecumenical Franciscan priest founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, highlights the relation between Advaita Vedanta and Christianity.
- Christians believe that Jesus is the image of full humanity and full divinity put together. Something that logically is an impossibility.
- Christianity never mastered the concept of non-duality, although its basic doctrines can’t be understood without it.
- The West didn’t develop the non-dual understanding because of Greek philosophy.
- Christianity emphasizes belief. But belief is not really “experience” except, maybe mysticism.
- The West never used the word non-dual (Advaita Vedanta) and needed the east to give it the “word.”
- But once you have the “word,” then everything follows afterward.
