Father Richard Rohr, a recognized ecumenical Franciscan priest founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, highlights the relation between Advaita Vedanta and Christianity.

  1. Christians believe that Jesus is the image of full humanity and full divinity put together. Something that logically is an impossibility.
  2. Christianity never mastered the concept of non-duality, although its basic doctrines can’t be understood without it.
  3. The West didn’t develop the non-dual understanding because of Greek philosophy.
  4. Christianity emphasizes belief. But belief is not really “experience” except, maybe mysticism.
  5. The West never used the word non-dual (Advaita Vedanta) and needed the east to give it the “word.”
  6. But once you have the “word,” then everything follows afterward.
