I had the notion that synagogues were in use post-Temple destruction, but there it is in Luke, the famous passage when Jesus begins his ministry. I’ve read that there isn’t much know of synagogues of the first century and before. Just wondering if this might have been an example of a post-Temple use of synagogues written into the Gospel of Luke. Anyone know?

I have seen it argued both ways – that Synagogues predate 70 AD and vice versa. It seems anything that could be called a synagogue pre 70 AD was found in the cities ruled by a Greek population. The Synagogue served a civic function as it kept the Judeans from being considered Syrians or Egyptians.
The hovels comprising Nazareth would not have such a need. These could meet in an already existing structure. I am unaware of any evidence that such an entity existed.
