Well we have to admire Pastor Webbon for his honesty. It is rather sickening to listen to all the Bible Thumpers blathering endlessly about democracy and Christian America while they wrap themselves in the Flag, knowing full well what lies behind it. Here the veil – and the gloves – come off. Admit it Christian America! To keep your privilege, to prevent the queers and the darkies from polluting your precious bodily fluids you’ll gladly abandon the democratic principles that stirred the Founders of this country imperfect as they were. Where is the Strong Man to set things right?
Now friends, truthfully my intention in posting this charming video was not to start a nasty political discussion. These Christian Nationalists are a small minority with little life outside YouTube. They seethe and they dream. The bulk of the pious will be content to cast a vote. (For now.)
The reason I posted this is to highlight an interesting parallel between the message coming from Webbon and the apocalyptic message of the NT. It’s gone too far. The powers that be are corrupted and demonic. Traditional protections can no longer sustain us. Many interpret the Jewish revolts as political movements but we should remember these ancient peoples made no such distinction. It was the Enlightenment that these modern types hate that gave us the concept of the separation of church and state, the secular ideal, the very foundation of our liberty. Of course like many of the Jews of the first century, excepting Jesus, Pastor Webbon is not content to wait upon the Lord.
And you’re saying what?
If this is addressed to me and not Jarek, I am saying that many Christian groups do not really believe in democracy, especially when things are perceived as not going there way. They have no faith in the secular institutions that support democracy and long for a strong decisive power to set things right. Christianity has always posssesed an apocalyptic viewpoint that surfaces in times of trouble, real or imagined.
