I am not a specialist, credentialed or otherwise, but I have been reading scholarship in the field of Ancient Near East Studies ever since I was introduced to the Epic of Gilgamesh in college. Let me speak clearly. ‘Ancient Astronauts’ is horsesh*t. The fact that so many people buy into it is simply sad.
If anyone is interested in what scholars actually think about the Anunnaki go here-

Talking starts a couple minutes in. This video directly addresses fringe theories.

I pick ET out of my nose.
A little after 27:30, the video says, Yahweh classes himself as an Elohim? Please state the scripture. Maybe he is referring to 1 Sam 5: 10 or
2 Kings 1: 3-4
Then the angel of Yahweh said to Elijah from Tishbe, “Meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and ask them, ‘Do you seek advice from Baalzebub, the god of Ekron, because you think there is no Elohim in Israel? 4 This is what Yahweh says: You will not get up from the bed you are lying on. Instead, you will die there.’” Then Elijah left.
Oh, so this is tied to the 10 Commandments and henotheism.
Yahweh was one member of the Elohim. Yahweh had to admit there were others on his level.
So, as I have said, Yahweh is not a global god of Earth.
Yahweh is a local god of a certain group of Semitic people that descended into Egypt. Yahweh is not even the god of all Semetic people.
Given the history of descents into Egypt, Yahweh was not the Elohim member of the Hebrew slaves AND the Elohim member of the Hyksos.
Jesus, the New Moses, Jesus and his new Passover, does not link to an un-unified Elohim. …
The video goes on to say that Joshua said
Cut yourself off from other Elohim, you serve this member of the Elohim.
Interesting, some members of the Elohim had their own human colonies.
The video goes on to say there is some brutality by some members of the Elohim. Even Origen saw this. The video also says to take a look at Acts chapter 15.
So, do not translate the Elohim stories as stories about god stories because moral problems crop up. Even Origen spoke of this.
There were a number of Powerful Ones (local gods) who were in competition with one another.
One or more members of the Elohim was associated with Egypt distinct from the member associated with Moses and Joshua.
“We do not want to make the humans as intelligent as us although we create them in our image.”

So, where there were just the Michael Heiser books, one can add the Paul Wallis books, the Mauro Biglino book, and the Billy Carson books.
Then we will have had a great brainstorming session about the Hebrew Bible.
The video posted from Digital Hammurabi by Stephen is unreliable. I’ve watched an interview by another member of Digital Hammurabi and the PhD gave a flawed answer to one of my questions–I am an argumentation specialist, debate judge, editor, and author. Just because a person has a PhD does not mean the way that person answers a given question cannot mislead you. / There are scholarly differences and there are political ends, not always truth seeking.
The Powerful Ones (the Elohim) were not human beings who were Hebrews, Israelites, specifically.
Yahweh was a member of the Elohim.
This reminds me, I wanted to watch this video (a video already watched 249,000j plus times–it has 12,000 thumbs up):
Will I give it a thumb up as I did for the video in the first post of this thread?
ELYON – “The Commander of The Elohim” This Information is Key! Paul Wallis & Mauro Biglino Ep 2
It’s amazing and depressing how high the production values are on these silly videos. What real scholar can hope to compete? The saddest part is that in almost every case the truth is more interesting than these simple-minded fantasies. Behind it all floats the shadow of that old carnie Erich Von Daniken.
Typical quote-mining. If you have actually read Sagan’s books you would know he was a vociferous critic of the ‘Ancient Astronauts’ hypothesis. Why are you prejudiced against ancient peoples? Don’t you think they were smart enough to invent civilization without space aliens?
Stephen
You are in error.
20:10 to 23:20 is not typical quote-mining.
20:10 – Carl Sagan mentioned
21:21 – Carl Sagan wrote a paper: “Direct Contact Among Galactic Civilizations by Relativistic Interstellar Space Flight”
