Most modern Scholars say Daniel 11 records the Syrian Wars of the diadochi.
If this is true and Daniel 11:20 should be about seleucus IV
However and you are within 20 describe seleucus as
“Then in his place one will arise who will send an oppressor through the Jewel of his kingdom; yet within a few days he will be shattered, though not in anger nor in battle.”
The problem is rules for like 15 years and that’s not a small error since Daniels usually considered to have been composed just after the reign of Antiochus epiphanes
How do historians interpret Daniel 11 20 in light of this fact
“

Actually this “error” is used by historians to date the writing of Daniel to just before Antiochus iv died. I think he actually did die in battle as well.
As with most apocalyptic literature the writer gives some indication as to why he is so enraged and wants some peoples eliminated in holy terror, then goes on to predict the ending of his earthly foes by the writer’s supernatural hero. And they all prove out wrong of course, as we are all still here.

You might be interested to know that Antiochus iii made the same terrible decision to raid a temple. It was far to the east, nearer Persopolis, I think and it may have been Ba’al or Bel’s temple. It seems to be the lowest sort of crime a king could do to anyone, not just the Jews.
And I just realized you said Seluecid iv. I think its supposed to by Antiochus Epiphanes, no?
