i hear apologists say that since human beings were created in the image of god, then slavery was not something god wanted but sin was the reason for subjecting one to another.
where is the evidence that concept of “image of god” does not allow subjecting one to another?
why can’t there be enslaved images of god ?
another thing is that yhwh said that his covenant with israel was unending, he never said he had an unending cov with adam or noah.
i quote:
Where were the Hebrew people when God first told them his slavery rules in Exodus 21? They were wandering the desert after escaping slavery themselves, and thus owned no slaves themselves. In fact, if the Bible is to be believed they were enslaved for 430 years and no one was alive from the time prior where they might have owned slaves. We also have numerous examples where God told his people to do things other nations did not (e.g. celebrating the Sabbath, leaving fields unharvested every few years) and told his people not to do things that other nations did. We see the latter mentioned a few times in the Bible like Deuteronomy 18:9-14 and Leviticus 18:3. So on multiple fronts we can stop with this false notion that God had no choice to allow slavery because other nations were doing the same.
end quote
so hold on a second, why were laws given on how to do slavery, when god told people not to do what other nations did? unless god/the authours, did not think that enslaving was contrary to concept of image of god?
