Miracles as Proof

In the Tanakh, the Messiah is never taught as being divine and the Jews were constantly told not to take miracles as a proof beyond doubt of Messiah.

At what point in NT history did miracles become the proof of messiah? It’s not a teaching in Judaism that I can find. Was it even a thing or is it just one of those things passed on as tradition? From a fundamentalist premise I can MAYBE see it taught in the NT, but not so much if I use a more historical lens.

I’ve heard many rabbi’s tell people emphatically in debates that “miracles are not concrete proof of Messiah” while their Christian opponents just keep using miracles to base their theology on. They don’t even flinch. It’s like it can’t register with them. These are Christian scholars debating them.

FTR – I am from a fundamentalist background similar to Bart’s and was raised in a serious conservative Baptist tradition. I started studying Judaism to try and teach bible studies better from a historical perspective to Christians and finding a lot of stuff that seems to just have “appeared” at some point in church history.

I’m new to it and been listening to Rabbi Michael Skobac from Jews for Judaism because he focuses on the differences between Judaism as how it relates to the teachings of Christianity. Anyone interested in that stuff should check him out. Very interesting. I found much of what I learned from Christians that “Jews believe” they just flat out don’t and never did.
