A surprising end to the year. The two former ruthless critics of popular literature formed a team and produced an interesting work themselves. Jan M. Kozłowski a few years ago philologically attacked the theses of “How Jesus Became A God”, which I wrote recently. A little later, Sławomir Poloczek mercilessly dealt with Creating Christ as a historian. A duo with the working name Toxic Tweens (my idea) just released “Ogygia and Eden – The Odyssean Backgroud of Genesis 2-3”.
Scholars have long noted parallels between the Eden narrative in Gen 2.4b-3.24 and the fifth book of Homer’s Odyssey, describing Odysseus’ sojourn on Calypso’s island Ogygia. So far, however, no monographic study has explored these similarities. The present article discusses previous scholarly observations and offers new evidence that the author of Genesis 2:4b-3:24 was inspired by the Homeric narrative.

You’re ignoring the elephant in the room. The truth is that both Homer and the writers of the Hebrew Bible stole everything from the Ancient Near East.
Me? I myself am surprised by the bravado of the young, but I think there is something to it since the journal Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses prints it for them. Especially since it’s going to be a series. Iphigenia and Isaac next.
