The Temple was not supposed to be destroyed from the Hebrew Bible perspective. What I see in Zechariah is that Jerusalem was supposed to be a destination.

Now, from an historical perspective, the Temple was destroyed because messianic rebels attacked Rome and in the course of putting down the rebellion, the Temple was destroyed.

Sorry but I’m not sure what you’re asking. Which temple? The First Jewish Temple? That is all that the Hebrew Bible writers would have known of.
