I apologize if these subjects are covered in depth by Dr. Ehrman’s books, but I have not had the opportunity to read them as yet.
I just wanted to get a general idea on Dr. Erhman’s stance on the crucifixion. Was it a historical event? And if so, what is the evidence for this outside of the Bible?
I moved my question on Paul to the appropriate string.

All serious scholars, with the exception of some marginal mythicist scholars consider the crucifixion as one of the safest “facts” of the historical Jesus.
The literary evidence outside the gospels is rather insignificant, and may have been picked up from Christians, who already believed it.
