QANON is the proverbial fish in a barrel. Easy to dismiss. What’s rather more exciting is to encounter someone who has reached an entirely different conclusion than me but just as importantly, can articulate their own thought process. When the student is ready the teacher appears. But that’s because the teacher is always there but the student, alas, is not always ready.

Precisely why it was a good example. (One would hope that there would be no arguing in its favor.) The problem with only looking at arguments that fit what one already believes is the trap of confirmation bias. But the problem with chasing all rabbit holes on every controversial issue is that one will never do anything else. Once again, a proper balance is the key, but perhaps easier to advocate than to achieve.
I don’t mind a good crank. But they have to at least show a modicum of imagination. QANON is just the usual tiresome crap. And as far as “a proper balance” well let me quote from one of our best cranks – The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom. And You never know what is enough until you know what is more than enough. Both rather pithily referred to as Proverbs from Hell.
