questions:
why did matthew add specific locations? “inner rooms”
“in the wilderness” ?
are these verses talking about real humans pretending to be jesus ?
x will say y “is the christ”
or x will say “i am the christ” ?
is it possible that there were those who were seeing imposter christs in the jewish scriptures?
“look, he is HERE” ?

any examples?
Jesus is a counter messiah and counter emperor. It is hellenistic divine massiah and emperor. In fact he was accused by the Jews and crucified by the Romans because author was a Greek.
False Christs is a nice disavowing competition of author. The main product is one but offered by many parties with different description and version.
2Cor 11-4
For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.
This is direct warning from Paul
Matthew is using Jesus personally for indirect warning.
