Dear Dr. Ehrman

So the holidays are here, and that makes me think more of acts of kindness and thankfulness. I have read your books and find that I must agree that the best way of understanding Jesus is as a apocalyptic prophet. So does that mean that there is nothing or very little evidence that Jesus can, also, be understood as a teacher and and example of love and kindness. Because if that is true it makes me a little sad at this time of the year.

No, I don’t think that being an apocalypticist made someone unkind. On the contrary, Jesus taught that we should love others and treat them as well as we treat ourselves, if we wanted to side with God and enter his kingdom.

I agree.
