Given that Yeshua means “saviour” it could possibly be a meaningful pseudonym like Paul or Cephas or Israel. Or the seed historical “Jesus” might have subsequently been conflated with contemporaries who happened to also be called Jesus/yeshua (couple of candidates in Josephus’ writings).
The Jesus vs Jesus Barabbas prisoner swap in early manuscripts does make one think…but, all considered, it’s more likely that he was called Jesus because it was his name.
