Has anyone ever heard anything about extrabiblical sources for the supposed Star of Bethlehem? Like Chinese records recording an astronomical event to the west around the time of Jesus’ supposed birth?

Yes. Such extrabibilical source exists. This is a book of Roman astrologer of 4th century Julius Firmicus Maternus “Mathesis”. There is the crypto-testimony on the date and time of the Nativity. “The Star of Bethlehem” name(s) can be extracted from the Firmicus’s message very easy. At least, two stars played the role in creation the image of the the Star of Bethlehem. Those stars are Regulus and Southern Scales.
