beginning just before the quartodecimen controversey and especially DURING the quartodecimen controversy you see a “Bishop” make a power play to exercise authority over another Bishop. The Bishop trying to gain rule was the Bishop of Rome (Victor) and the other Bishop of Ephesus (Polycrates), the dispute was the roman church wanted to celebrate easter, and the churches of asia minor (closer to jerusalem) were celebrating Passover. This rift only grew from there. And it is the clearest point at which the followers of Christ went sideways from his teachings. The roman branch continued on with mixing with the pagan beliefs around it. As persecution increased, the roman branch blended more and more, and the Roman Bishops wanted authority over the rest of the churches more and more, this is seen in a number of letters and synods. What the Bishops of rome realized is that the government had the authority to kill them, and thus the authority to not kill them, and that authority would be useful. So the church begins its infiltration of the government and eventually they get Constantine to make this Hybrid faith now called Christianity offical, and the Bishop of Rome becomes the authority over all the churches. 

But this thirst for power didnt stop there and over time instead of being of the authority of the government, they wanted to be over the authority of governments so they spread this religion and assimilated the non-believers by changing christianity so that these other faiths seems similar to christianity and the christians would claim that they really actually are the same faith so just come into our fold. As they gained influence the church would back write or revise history to show what they wanted it to. The claims of the lineage of Popes is one of such things.

So why did christ need to be God, well there is a few reasons. One is if All authority was given to christ and christ gave it to peter and peter gave it to the next “pope” then from pope to pope the authority of god was handed along. This Vicar of christ had the authority to make LAW as in God made LAW so now these men can make LAW. They needed the authority to make LAW to change the religion at will.

Another reason this Godship pf the pope allows a claim to be greater than the kings of this world, BUT not to offend the kings of this world the popes arent concerned with the worldly affairs. This kept the faith from being destroyed by kings, but meant kings had to turn to them to receive their God ordained rule.

Also these Christians had NO understanding of the bible, these couldnt read it, and couldnt understand it when it was read to them. They had only what the Priest class told them about the faith. And these priest class people had no real understanding of the faith, but they had a basic understanding that sin is bad and in fact its SOOOOOO bad that you yourself could not rectify it, even if you gave your life it would not be enough to reconcile your sin. SIN IS A GOD SIZED PROBLEM, this is what everone is still told today, and since its a God sized problem it required A GOD SIZED SACRIFICE . The people had a basic concept they think from the bible that if you do something wrong you have to kill an animal in your place. So this church psuhed that idea to the extreme, So Now peoples SALVATION is tired to Chirst being God, and if he is not God then they cant be saved. and that secures the churches claim to have authority of all mankind.

The early believers and Jesus himself did not believe him to be God. He was made God because MEN wanted to exploit that for their own personal gain.
