I thought that I heard some years ago of the possibility of Thomas the twin being responsible for the sightings of Jesus after the crucifixion. Any evidence for this is very scant, but it would be, wouldn’t it. It is mildly suspicious that the New Testament is so coy about Thomas. He is called “Twin” in two different languages, but it never tells us who’s twin. To be known as Jesus’ twin brother would cause all sorts of theological problems, so it is never mentioned.? Of course, that is a long way from proof, it’s just an interesting? possibility. Another mildly suspicious thing is how Thomas was removed from the scene fairly quickly, and, if legend is correct, sent off to India?? There’s not much chance of anyone involved with the scene in Jerusalem seeing him there and thinking that there might have been a substitution in the days after passover in the year 30 CE…
Another interesting thing is when Jesus appeared to the disciples that first time, Thomas was not there.. Had he in fact trimmed his beard, changed his clothes and was standing in for his brother?
Yeah, I know, a long shot and what does it matter, anyway…

Where in the Gospel of Thomas does Jesus say that Jude (Thomas) is his twin? To say that Jesus and Jude Thomas did some kind of switcheroo after Jesus’ crucifixion seems less likely than the resurrection. I don’t believe the resurrection was a miracle, I believe it was a scientific and medical reality. We are very close to approaching the technology to do this kind of thing today in reality. The angels have and had way better technology than humans…ex: cloaking. Humans actually have cloaking abilities through science today, as well as night vision, and many other technologies that would have seemed like improbable miracles 50 years ago. Seriously, if I showed someone my IPhone 20 years ago, I would have been called a witch probably! Lol. I believe science accounts for the resurrection. It’s not a miracle. And the twin switcheroo idea is extremely unlikely. Like, Peter and, um, everyone else wouldn’t have thought to wonder about that?

I love investigating these fringe theories. I believe Robert Price has discussed this theory bu I don’t remember which book. And I think it has a MUCH higher probability of being true than a resurrection from the dead. But I’m atheist so I don’t buy the resurrection unless I can stick my fingers in his wounds, too!

I think the possibility that Jesus had a twin who was seen from afar after his death is far more likely than a miracle.
Do I think that happened…probably not.
But its far more likely than a miracle which is by its very definition the least likely of outcomes.
(although bodies rising up and walking around seemed rather common in that time and place…aka the zombies of Matthew!)
