1 Samuel 31 and 2 Samuel 1. There’s a “conspiracy” over how exactly Saul died.
1 Samuel 31 says Saul killed himself with his own sword, and the armourbearer then killed himself. Saul and his sons are then buried underneath a tree at Jabesh. (Underneath the fig tree)
2 Samuel 1, the amourbearer cannot be the man from the camp of Saul who says he is a son of an Amalekite. But this man says it was him who killed Saul.
So which is it? Did Saul kill himself or was it this man from the camp of Saul?
This mystery is then expressed in John 1:48 with Jesus talking to Nathaniel.
Sitting underneath a tree wondering how Saul died.

2 Samuel 21:11-12
The Phillistines killed Saul.
So there’s 3 versions of the death of Saul in the OT.
1) Saul kills himself so he’s not taken prisoner of war
2) the man from the camp of Saul killed Saul on orders to do so from Saul, then he the witness is killed by David
3) the Phillistines killed Saul
