Listening to Misquoting Jesus again and started wondering about the languages used in those old times. Were the ancient writings in Greek or Aramaic? When the Greek books were read to the people, was Greek the language? Did the people speak Greek as well, or instead of, Aramaic?

“I am not a scholar” disclaimer.

If you are asking about the ancient copies of what became the New Testament, they were written in Koine Greek originally. Also, they were probably not written in Judea or Galilee, but in Greek-speaking areas around the Mediterranean.
