Hi I’m new and am not sure where to post this, so move it if needs to be.
I remember watching a History Channel documentary on the Book of revelation years called ” Apocalypse – The Puzzle of Revelation” and in it they compared some of the passages of Daniel to Revelation and one of the scholars basically said because of the similarity of certain passage in many ways that both books go together hand and hand or something like that and that one the Book of Daniel could have inspired been loosely been used to write the Book of Revelation or the Book of Revelation least a new interpretation of Book of Daniel.
I was wondering what is everyone thoughts on this hypothesis are and if you need passages and/or the documentary i’ll find them for you.

Welcome to the Forum! The books of Daniel and Revelation are both works of the apocalyptic literary genre. Daniel is one of the earliest of this genre. Revelation was definetly influenced by the book of Daniel and uses some of the imagery. There is a theory that the core of the book of Revelation was derived from a Jewish apocalypse that was later Christianized, but I’m not aware of any theories that link it any closer to the book of Daniel than that. If you could find the documentary, that might be interesting.

here is general list of some of the comparison I found. (i’m not sure if the passages and chapters are right number wise)
For instance, both prophets saw visions of beasts with ten horns or heads. Both Daniel, chapter 7, and Revelation, chapter 13, speak of a beast, or evil person, that rises up speaking great things and blasphemies. They also say that this beast makes war against the saints and wins. In chapter 11 of Revelation and chapter 12 of Daniel, the beast’s reign is said to be for three and a half years ort something like that. In both Daniel, chapter 7, and Revelation, chapter 14, the Son of Man is envisioned as coming on clouds.
Here is the documentary
