I have tried to find information about how expensive it was to create gospel manuscripts.
The cost of the papyrus sheets. The cost of the scribes work. And other costs.
Am I right in assuming that it was so expensive that poor people had no possibility to buy parchment or pay the scribe for the job. So there was some wealthy financier paying the costs.
I found a figure of 40 denarii/papyrus sheet. That would make about 2000$ for one sheet. But how many sheets were needed for a single gospel manuscript.
The cost of producing a manuscripts of Nee Testament has some interesting implications.
