Aramaic literature?

Aside from the Targum, does anyone here know about the style and features of pre-Christian Aramaic literature? Are there any parallels between those writings and what we see in the NT? To be clear, I understand that we don’t have any NT manuscripts in Aramaic but I’m just wondering if any style was transferred over or if it’s mostly “highly rhetorical Greek.”

I should also say, I started trying to figure this out for myself and was quickly overwhelmed…

Wow!! Thanks so much for this response! You even anticipated my next question, “what other books or articles should I check out?” I’m going to see if I can find that article through my university.

Thanks so much for all of your contributions to this forum! It really makes it fun to check in.

Ah! That makes sense. I am the definition of a “lay person.” I’ll pick up Casey’s book. Thanks again.
