spiker I’ve seen some of these “reconstructions” of “Q” and I think they are speculative at best.  All we can say for sure is that Matthew and Luke had access to some sort of material that seems to have largely consisted of sayings of Jesus and that Mark  doesn’t seem aware of it.  (At least Mark never refers to it or quotes it which is the only way we could ever determine that he was aware of it.)  There are huge gaps in our knowledge and in some cases the only honest answer is that we don’t know.

Truthfully though I think we pretty much have “Q” whatever it’s source.  Between Matthew and Luke I’m sure they sucked it dry of all the “good parts”.  Me, I’d much prefer to find an early 1st century version of Mark or an authentic uncollected Pauline letter than “Q”.  Maybe the gods of archeology will look down with favor on us and allow another Bedouin sheepherder to stumble on another amazing find of materials like the Dead Sea Scrolls or Nag Hammadi.  And I hope the scholars get a hold of it before ISIS does!

Yea, I would agree with that; though I haven’t seen any reconstructions

Or the Green Family (You know the folks that reportedly have first century fragments of Mark) And incidentally, Dan Wallace seems to think the Markan fragments will be like the DSS.  Yes, a new Paul letter would be nice. Who knows maybe Josh McDowell will have some luck with his palmolive approach 😉

How many years has it been since they first threatened to stun the world with these new manuscripts?  I hope Wallace is not merely destroying his reputation by  associating with these evangelical yahoos.  If they really have something they need to get it in the hands of objective competent scholars.  I hope this doesn’t turn out to be another Jesus’ wife thing.  It’s amazing how gullible scholars can be who should know better!

Agreed.   It will have been 5 years unless they revise the date again. There’s really no reason to exclude the experts; to be sure, I understand some of their purchases have been questionable. Also,  the delay may be related to wanting to keep it hush hush till the opening of their museum, but it’s still a red flag. After all, scholars can keep things under wraps. Then you have the association with ppl like McDowell as if they only trust evangelical yahoos while viewing experts like prof Ehrman as LIBERALS  (Q sinister music) Doesn’t bode well.
