In Matthew 20:29-34, Mark 10:46-52 & Luke 18:35-43 there are 3 accounts of the healing of blind individual/s. In Matthew it is 2 blind men but in Mark and Luke, it is only one blind man. In Matthew’s account Jesus is leaving the city when the events happen (Matthew 20:29). However, in the Mark and Luke accounts Jesus was approaching the city (Mark 10:46 & Luke 18:35). I remember that when I was an evangelical Christian, I consulted commentaries that explained that Jericho at the time would have had an old and new section. So, Jesus could leave the old part of Jericho and be approaching the new part and vice versa. I know that Jericho was very ancient in the first century CE however I have my suspicions that the commentators hoped rather then knew that there were 2 Jerichos at this time.
Is there any evidence (archaeological or written) that there was an old and new Jericho in the first century?
