If you had to pick a Gospel what would you base it off? Historical accuracy? Alignment of the Biblical teachings? Jesus focus?

I’m just curious.

I would not pick the Gospel of John:

One reason, the other gospels did not share the experience of resurrecting Lazarus.
Second, the Kingdom of the Son of Man isn’t necessarily earthly in the Gospel of John.

If by “pick” you mean which gospel would we choose if we could only have one, then I agree with Robert about Mark. Read as a standalone, as it would have been for decades, it is certainly unique. Even though you can certainly see why the authors of Matthew and Luke were dissatisfied with it. (We can intuit this dissatisfaction from the way they treated the text.)

But imagine how different Christianity would be if all we had was Mark! I try to imagine it. A personal fantasy would be for someone to produce a movie that followed Mark exactly as written. It would immediately become the most controversial Jesus movie ever made!

I would pick my own since rolling dice is not picking. It’s not difficult to write stories to fill in the gaps. The origin is that the kingdom has a time (past, present, future) and it has a location. If it has no time or location then it doesn’t exist.

Mark. I don’t know scholarly details, but its reuse of the Elijah-Elisha narrative is masterful, imo. Also its resuse of the Absalom storyline via Zechariah 9-14.
