Has anyone ever posited this passage as an argument for the perpetual virginity of Mary? While she refers to Joseph as “your father”, their other children, if any, are conspicuous by their absence. Would’nt they have gone to Jerusalem with the rest of the family?

It is an argument against the perpetual virginity of Mary. The other children are either not present or not part of the story at this time when Jesus is found. Jesus’ answer, referring to his being in his Father’s house, is puzzling to his parents.

I think that the parents being perplexed by Jesus’ answer throws doubt on the whole virgin birth story.
