Has anyone read Ross Douthat’s 6 April 2023 article titled “A Naïve Reading of the Gospels May Be Just What Christianity Needs?” In it he argues that the continued weakening of institutional Christianity will lead Americans to read the Gospels from a more naïve perspective which will in turn result in a decline in scriptural deconstruction and fewer studies on the historical Jesus. I rarely agree with Douthat and don’t buy his arguments in this article but it was an interesting read at the very least. I’d love to read other readers’ opinions about the article.
