The Hebrew Bible
Antiquities of the Jews – Josephus
Wars of the Jews – Josephus
The Odyssey – Homer
The Bacchae – Euripides

And what was Dr. Ehrman saying about oral tradition and memory?

For Luke-Acts and Josephus, see Josephus and the New Testament, Second Edition by Steve Mason

I thought the NT writers read the Septuagint. Not sure there was much Hebrew to be read unless you were in the priesthood. But Jews in the Greek half of the Roman Empire seemed acquainted with the Greek version of ancient Jewish stories. Thus the virgin insertion into the Jesus story, eh?
