5If your brother sins against you, go and confront him privately. The Greek used is EKKLESIA which is normally translated as “the church”, but it literally means an assembly or group. I think the use of the word “church” here is opportunistic by most translators. Given the context the word should be more properly translated as the general group of believers in my opinion. Some might say it can mean the local synagogue, but another word is used to mean synagogue elsewhere in the NT.
