Paul at 1 Cor. Chapter 11, verses 23-29
For I received from the Lord [by my self-reported vision] what I also passed on to you…
Steefen
You did not get it from Oral Tradition.
Paul
The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,
and when he had given thanks, he broke it an said,
“This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying,
“This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup,
you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
Steefen
He did come back three days later and stayed for 40 days.
Paul
So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty
of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.
Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink
from the cup.
For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ
eat and drink judgment on themselves.
Hebrew Scripture would not have informed Jesus to do this.
1
If God would have allowed Abraham to kill Isaac, Abraham would not have metaphorically eaten Isaac’s body and would not have metaphorically drunk his blood from a cup of a covenant.
2
This is not remembrance of a Messiah. It is remembrance of a military siege against God’s People that brings on starvation and cannibalism as had happened in the Jewish Civil War and the Jewish Revolt against Rome.
– Jeremiah 19: 3-9
– Deuteronomy 28: 49-57
– Lamentations 4: 10
– Leviticus 17: 10-11
Conclusion: It cannot be that Jesus is a Savior-Messiah and the foundation of his Last Supper references defeat on this scale.
Counter-Argument:
Jesus knew the Jews would not defeat the Romans at the Battle of Galilee.
Jesus knew the Romans would put down the Jewish Revolt and in the process, the Temple would be destroyed.
Steefen:
At the Last Supper, Jesus was not returning to the topic of Tribulation preceding the Son of Man’s glorious kingdom.
That counter-argument is in error.
Acts 21:28, 38
…”Help: Paul is the man who teaches everyone everywhere
against our people, our law, and this sanctuary!”
“Aren’t you the Egyptian who started a revolt and led four thousand terrorists out into the wilderness
some time ago [and here you are causing problems again]?”
Steefen
Ancient Jews are not worshipers of Serapis (Greek) or Osiris (Egypt). You are not in Ephesus, Corinth, Alexandria, or Rome. You may think you are an apostle to the Gentiles for Christ; but, these people here in Judea reject you.
