Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m on a tight budget but is there a better one than Joel Marcus’s?

Check!  The commentaries of Marcus and Yarbro Collins make a fine core to a Mark collection and will be hard to top for a long while.

But this thread raises the specter of how to acquire these tomes without bankrupting yourself.  On principle I refuse to pay full price for anything so I sniffed around for almost three years before I found a reasonable deal for Yarbro Collins’ commentary.  If you don’t mind used copies (which I don’t) you can save yourself some big bucks.  Go to ** you do not have permission to see this link ** which surveys most of the major online book vendors.

I use Amazon as a research tool but I can almost always find copies of books cheaper somewhere else.  (Amazon gets you with those evil flat shipping fees which sometimes results in the ridiculous situation where the shipping costs more than the book!)

The other relatively recent outstanding commentary on the gospel of Mark in English is ** you do not have permission to see this link **. I would not say either one is better than the other. They offer somewhat differing scholarly perspectives, both of which are very good and rather expensive, but hers being one (very large) volume is a little less expensive.

Thank you!

Good website. Pushed a search and found i can get them both for about 70. Kind of ouch but still way better than Amazon’s price
