I was confused about what γρηγορώμεν and καθεύδωμεν should actually mean.I think that they mean being awake and asleep spiritually as in 5:6,not the popular view from what I ve studied that being alive or dead as in 4:15 ,where actually the words ζώντες and κοιμηθέντας are used. Also ,that agrees with what i know from other greek speeking christian teachings. The question is :if that’s true then does paul meant that even for human reasons if you were asleep spiritually when this day would come, you would be saved ,because you had faith in jesus? Or something else?

Please forgive a question to help me understand this. Is Paul making a distinction between those who are awake and sober, as opposed to those who are asleep or awake but drunk? I had understood those who sleep at night in opposition to those who are drunk, but it seems that those who are asleep and those who are drunk will both be unprepared for salvation. Is that the point Paul is making?

Thanks,Robert.I think that paul want thessalonians to stay awake spiritually and that he believes good works are important for that ,but still I can not think why he does that in 5:10.If i understand correctly, do you think that ,in 5 10 ,he is talking about dead and alive ? It might be correct, but I don’t think so.Does he want possibly thessalonians to have hope and don’t be afraid, because they have real faith, while they are trying to do good deeds ,but even though when that moment comes and finds them unfortunately spiritually asleep, they won’t lose salivation, because that is actually his faith?Notice that they are trying to be spiritually awake and he wants that ,but if that day finds them asleep, because it was a bad moment, they don’t actually lose salivation.

I don’t actually think much that he is saying being a lukewarm Christian is nice ,more like the opposite as elsewhere as you said. But ,what i am talking about is like you have to be awake ,you have to be sober, but it’s not the fear that makes you do that (oh,don’t fail ,don’t fail, don’t sin). You have to have hope instead because salvation don’t work that way.You are not going to lose it because of basically unluckiness. Do I think that having just hope and being lukewarm leads to salvation, according to him? Not at all.I say these but me myself don’t believe in salvation anymore thought
