
Paul’s attitude towards gentile coverts to Christinity is clear from his letters: They should not follow the Jewish Law. But what was his attitude towards Jews who wish to become part of the Jesus Movement? Should they keep Jewish ritual practices? This is not clear in his letters.

The Paul of the NT forgeries as filtered through the Reformers does make Paul look like a radical who rejects the Law. What I wonder though is just how radical the actual historical Paul would have seemed in his own context.

I don’t know how much credence to place on the reconstruction of the Marcionite NT letters of Paul that I have in a book left, alas, back in my working output before coming home for Christmas, but I will be interested to see how much of the NT version Paul’s discussion of the Law in the seven least disputed letters survives their reconstruction.
