Why do scholars believe that Paul made up Christianity if 1 Corinthians 15 predates Paul? Furthermore, how does Dr. Ehrman explain Romans 16:7, where Paul is addressing, Andronicus and Junias, two Jewish converts to Christianity? If Paul’s voyage to Rome wasn’t until 60-61 AD and the edict of Claudius was in 49AD, wouldn’t that suggest Andronicus and Junias were already converted before he got there?
‘Andronicus and Junias … outstanding among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me’ (** you do not have permission to see this link **).
It’s too simplistic to say that scholars think that Paul “made up Christianity”. What they tend to say is that Paul’s experience of Jesus and his interpretation of Christ fundamentally shaped the attitudes and expression of the subsequent development of the Church as it went from being predominantly Jewish to being predominantly Gentile. There were other competing voices before during and after Paul’s ministry. They just didn’t have the lasting influence he did.
how does Dr. Ehrman explain Romans 16:7? Why don’t you ask him? He responds to comments and questions almost every day.
