OK.  Now I’m getting a little frightened being on this blog!!

Because . . . ?

You are afraid of the answer given to Omar6741?

Hi Steefen,

Please don’t take any offence to anything I have written or the responses that followed.  I was joking around and shouldn’t have written what I did.  Please accept my apology.

I’m on this blog because I’m interested in what scholarship has to say about the NT, the life of Jesus and the bible in general.  I like to focus on the views shared by the majority of scholars because I am not a scholar and I it would take me lifetime to learn what they’ve devoted their lives to uncovering.  That’s not to say that I don’t apply critical reasoning when I read their opinions.

You have very interesting ideas and obviously those ideas are shared by others.  I was merely joking that some of what you wrote is quite different from the opinion of many scholars.  That’s all.  It was thoughtless comment on my part, but don’t read anything further in to this.

That’s such a great compliment to you I think.  I look forward to reading more of your thoughts and ideas – and promise to not be so thoughtless and dismissive in the future.

Kindest regards,

Darrell

Hi Darrell,

Thank you.

People get criticized for their religious beliefs: no, that religion is not moving into the next adult generation when I become an adult. So, we leave Sunday School, we leave weekday Bible Study class. We take an elective or two in religion. We buy a few books from the bookstore.

Rationalist: a person who bases their opinions and actions on reason and knowledge rather than on religious belief or emotional response.

The early critics think they have the intellectual higher ground. Scholars think they have the intellectual higher ground. Those who refuse the reality of higher ground establish their authority of acculturation.

What is accurate? That is what moves into the next adult generation.

Now, if you excuse me, I have to accept that the Bible pushed Moses into the future when, in fact, an exodus happened right before the Hyksos entered the Egyptian delta. The Bible misses this historical accuracy. Sure, the incoming Hyksos could have forced the exodus of the Avaris Israelites south into Sinai, during Egypt’s Middle Kingdom. An accumulation of 40 years was insufficient time for them to come out of Sinai to conquer Canaan.

Next, there was an 18th Dynasty of Egypt, historical figure who was a lawgiver known as Moses. He has the name and the role, so the Middle Kingdom exodus of Israelites got this add-on of Moses, lawgiver, and monotheism.

Bye for now.

he name “Jesus” was fairly common at the time. While there may have been one historical “Jesus”, there may have been other people whose deeds were tacked onto him.
