I am very pleased to announce an upcoming event that surely *anyone* connected to the blog will be deeply interested in: a two-day remote Bible conference for non-scholars, called “New Insights into the New Testament,” consisting of ten lectures, on the canonical Gospels, delivered by some of the most highly recognized New Testament scholars in the country, in terms accessible to layfolk. There’s never been anything like this. (But there will be again, since we’re planning on making it an annual event!)
The conference is not connected with the Blog per se, apart from the facts that the issues are all directly related to what we do here and that I’m the one organizing and moderating the event. Will it be recorded? I don’t think I could put 2 days by.
Yup, if you purchase it you will be sent a recording for lifelong access, whether you come or not.
Does it start on the 23rd or end on the 23rd? The graphic isn’t clear.
It takes place over two days, with five lectures on Sept 23 and five others on Sept. 24.
This event sounds great. I’ve just signed up and now look forward to it with eager anticipation.
Thanks for doing this, Bart.
The live event clashes with my sleep so I will watch or listen to the recordings. Exciting stuff! 🙂
Will the format be a Webinar with questions being submitted through the Q&A?
Each session will be a lecture (50 min. or so) followed by a Q&A, with questions submitted through the Q&A function. (We can’t have live questions asked orally because sometimes people make speeches instead of ask questions or take a long time to get to what ehy want ot ask, and we want to be able to address as many direct and interesting questions a possible)
Hi Bart. Where can I find your latest debate with a Muslim scholar on suffering? I heard you mentioned it in your ‘Why I am not a Christian’ lecture series.
I don’t have a link. It was on the Blogging Theology podcast done by Paul Williams. I don’t even know if it aired. I think Paul was upset by my tone as I got heated; I thought it was to be a serious discussion with a scholar but it was a very frustrating discussion with a Muslim pastor iwth a very simplistic point of view (namely, little children die of starvation because God will make it up to them in the afterlife. Unless they are not Muslim. IN that case, after starving to death, these innocent children will roast in the fires of hell for ever. That’s his explanation for why there is suffering… I can’t stand that kind of thing)
Oh my!
Even as a believer in God, I find the Muslim cleric’s interpretation highly problematic. I wish I had access to the full video.
You could write Paul Williams and ask where it’s available. If you find out, let us know.
Will I be able to attend the conference live or is this event only virtual?
It will be done remotely; all the lectuerers will be on their own turf, in different parts of the country.
Does my membership provide me with a special pricing for NEW INSIGHTS INTO THE NEW TESTAMENT on September 23 & 24?
If you enter BLOG5 as the code you’ll get $5 off — for the conference or all the courses that are available at the site.
