On Sunday March 6, 4:00 – 5:15 EST we are holding a blog event which will be a two-way affair: I will have the pleasure of trying to answer questions participants have and participants will have the pleasure of stumping me with questions I can’t answer. And a good time will be had by all!
This will be a fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders. Donations are voluntary but encouraged for this great cause.

The format: I will take live questions through chat. The questions can be on ANY topic that anyone is interested in. If it is something I don’t know anything about (Kant’s second critique or quantum mechanics) or that I would rather not talk about (that little incident when I was 16….) I’ll just say so. I will get through as many questions as I can, answering easy ones briefly and taking as long as I need to deal with more complicated ones. My only request is that questions are direct questions, not lectures, sermons, admonitions, condemnations, expositions of one’s favorite views, or statements of one’s opinions so the rest of the world can hear and convert. In fact, I guess I can assure you, the direct ones are the ones I’ll answer!
Interested? The event will be Sunday, March 6, 4:00-5:30 pm EST.
Every penny we bring in will go to Doctors without Borders. As you know, this is an all-out amazing organization that is doing the world a world of good. Right now its services are in desperate need, possibly more desperate than ever, with so much going on: massive starvation in Yemen and Afghanistan and the horrible situation unfolding in Ukraine. And those are just the ones front and center in our heads.
Our SUGGESTED DONATION for the event is $30. But we will take anything from $1 to something in the high six figures. Don’t feel obligated to give, but if you give, don’t feel obligated to hold yourself back. (!) We will then sing your eternal praises.
And here is one additional item. The Highest Donor will be allowed to have a twenty-minute one-on-one back-and-forth with me on any questions of interest. If you would like a shot at that, please send an email with your proposed donation to my personal assistant, Diane Pittman, at [email protected]. Bids need to be in to Diane by midnight Friday March 4. We will notify all bidders with further information about the process.
I hope you can make the event! I’m very much looking forward to it.

Fantastic charity, great idea, outstanding news – I’m in!
Hi Bart. Great idea and good on you for giving up your time. Can I ask two questions, one related, and one not ?
1. Is this event one question per participant ?
2. What is your beef with the Jesus Seminar ?
Thank you.
1. I’m sure I won’t be able to get to all the questions, so I imagine no one will have two. BUt who knows? Maybe there’ll on ly be six people there. 2.Long story. It would be a good question to ask!
Hope your joyful today Dr. Ehrman. Thank you for what you do.
Hello bart
I pledged 20 will you just take it out of my blog membership or is there another link I’ve got to click
Thanks. The post indicates how to make a donation.
So, if Jesus is a human being and Yahweh is a god the Jews concocted then Christianity is a marketing package? (If you do this then (we are pretty
sure )you will get this?
I don’t think Jews concocted Christianity, no. I think Jesus had followers who genuined believed he was the messiah and when they became convinced he was raised from the dead, were sure the end was coming soon. They were not marketing because they thought the end was coming right away. In any event, our modern concept of marketing, which most of us actively participate in!, is a capitalist construction. It wasn’t around int he ancient world the way we think of it.
Hello Bart, so grateful I found your blog, books, YouTube channel (thanks to Derek Lambert and Dr. James Tabor), and Podcast. Love it all and learning lots. Long time learner of biblical studies and looking to further my understanding of Christianity from a historical and societal context.
* Which version of the Greek New Testament you will recommend as well as a Hebrew Old Testament?
* Does UNC offers online courses in Religious Studies at the Master or Phd level?
Thanks so much and looking to learning more. Keep up the great work you and Megan are doing!!
Thanks! Go ahead and send the questions in via email!
